How could the score differences on the dimensions influence collaboration between the cultures? Take group work as an example, Finish people may expect each individual to take responsibility for the task we pre-divided, and express their opinions freely and openly, even if they disagree in the group. In contrast, Chinese people may like to maintain harmony in a group and try to avoid direct confrontation, even if they have different thoughts they may keep it in their hearts not to speak out. This kind of situation would lead to misunderstandings Chinese members reluctant to talk and low participation.
How are these values visible in your everyday life? Focus on some values such as time, hierarchy, individualism, power distance, etc. Analyze your own culture(s) from these viewpoints.
We have low scores of indulgence, showing that Chinese people emphasize discipline, social normal, and hard work. They value time and use the time mostly either studying or working. It is not easy for them to mentally and physically enjoy leisure and personal freedom.
In conclusion, Finland is characterized by individualism, equality, and a focus on well-being, while China values collectivism, Discipline, and long-term pragmatism. These differences reflect contrasting approaches to societal priorities and interpersonal relationships.
